Maddi Swaney
Cowgirl Assistant Coach

Maddi Swaney, the 2016 WGCA Assistant Coach of the Year, is in her fourth season as the assistant coach of the Cowgirl golf program.

While at Oklahoma State, Swaney has helped lead the team to nine tournament victories, including a Big 12 Championship in 2021, as well as the program's first ever appearance in the NCAA Championship match play finals.

Last season, the Cowgirls went a perfect 4-0 in the fall schedule under Robertson and Swaney's leadership, and ended up finishing in the top-3 of every regular season tournament for the first time at OSU since 1973-74. Following individual titles by Lianna Bailey at the Big 12 Championship and Maddison Hinson-Tolchard at the NCAA Stillwater Regional, Oklahoma State advanded to the NCAA Championships for a second straight year.

Swaney has coached four WGCA All-Americans and two Big 12 Players of the Year in Stillwater. Under Robertson and Swaney's guidance, Maddison Hinson-Tolchard blossomed into a star, earning both honors last season.

Swaney spent the previous eight season as the assistant coach at Kent State, including the last six under Greg Robertson, where she was a part of three NCAA Championship appearances, eight NCAA Regional bids, 30 tournament victories and 27 individual medalists.

There, she recruited and coached eight Mid-American Conference Golfers of the Year, four MAC Freshman of the Year, 26 First Team All-MAC honorees and 25 MAC All-Tournament Team members.

Swaney was instrumental in Kent State’s recent success. The Golden Flashes entered the 2019 NCAA Championships ranked No. 5 in the GolfStat national rankings after taking home their first regional title, sweeping the NCAA East Lansing Regional with a 4-under 860. Four of the five All-MAC First Team selections went to Kent State golfers in 2019.

Just as impressive in the classroom, Swaney has coached 14 WGCA All-American scholars, half of which have come in Stillwater. In the fall of 2016 while at Kent State, the team's GPA of 3.71 was the highest in program history.

Respected across the industry, Swaney served on the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Board of Directors as the Assistant Coach Representative from 2017-19.

Prior to serving as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Swaney was a tournament coordinator for the IMG Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton, Fla. In 2011. She also worked with the American Junior Golf Association, serving as a tournament operations intern.

As a four-year letterwinner with the Golden Flashes, Swaney had a career scoring average of 78.7, which ranked ninth in team history upon her graduation. Her best finishes for Kent State were a trio of fourthplace efforts at the MAC Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009. She twice earned second-team all-MAC accolades in 2008 and 2009.

In the classroom, Swaney was a three-time All-America Scholar as selected by the NGCA and was also a three-time Academic All-MAC selection.

A native of Marietta, Ohio, Swaney graduated from Kent State magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and received her M.A. in Sport and Recreation Management in December of 2016. She graduated from the NCAA Women Coaches Academy in December 2013. She has also received her TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Level One Certification in March, 2017.
